The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Sciences is seeking to appoint a talented and ambitious Postdoctoral Research Associate in Statistics to join the Statistical Research Group at the University of Kent. You will be conducting research on the 3-year project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and entitled From covariance regressions to nonparametric dynamic causal modelling. This innovative project is multidisciplinary, with project partners the Innovision IP Ltd and the Computational Neuroscience Group at the University of Cambridge, focusing on nonparametric neural differential equations with applications in diagnosis of brain injury.

2. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

You will work on a series of experimental studies involving conversational interaction between yourself and primary-school-aged children. The focus of these studies is on manipulating children’s ability to respond appropriately whilst avoiding saying too much (monologuing), alongside the ability to switch topics when necessary. These studies examine the role played by the child’s interests or hobbies, their cognitive flexibility and their core language processing efficiency.

The research project focuses on whether social relationships can be consolidated through sleep. The aim of the project is to understand the casual relationship between sleep and social interaction, including whether and how sleep enhances the encoding and consolidation of social processing, and whether this relationship is sensitive to features of the social or sleep context.
