Purpose

The Gulf Coast Carbon Center is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct micromodel laboratory experiments and pore-scale numerical simulations to characterize multiphase flow properties from field cores to assist with geologic characterization effort of a CO2 injection site.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct microfluid experiments of CO2 injection into brine-filled fluidic cells.
  • Conduct direct pore-scale multiphase flow simulations of CO2 and brine.
  • Public outreach and communication of the results of the research including attending conferences and meetings.

Required Qualifications

PhD in geosciences or engineering with a focus on energy applications. Experience with any kinds of laboratory experimental work including but not limited to micromodel, micro-CT, coreflooding, or sandtank. Experience in fluid flow dynamic modeling at any scale (e.g. pore-scale, core-scale, or the field scale, etc.). Ability to use flow experiments and/or simulations to qualify relative permeability and capillary pressure functions, displacement, recovery efficiency, and trapping mechanisms. Ability to learn quickly, and to work both independently and effectively in a group.

PhD must have been received within 3 years from date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). The ability to work with multiphase flow data at various scales (e.g. pore-scale to field-scale). Experience with commercial reservoir simulators (e.g. CMG, MRST, Eclipse, etc.). Proven publication skills. Demonstration of effective verbal communication and presentation skills.
