The Faculty of Linguistics at Uppsala University conducts teaching and research in several of the classical and contemporary languages and cultures, as well as linguistics and computational linguistics. This diversity of linguistic, literary and cultural specializations constitutes a core of humanistic research and also lays a sustainable foundation for fruitful collaborations within the faculty, but also with other scientific fields and society at large.
The Department of Modern Languages has approximately 65 employees who mainly conduct research and teaching in a large number of languages within both linguistics and literary studies.
The department now has two doctoral student positions available with a focus on linguistics or literary studies in one of the department’s postgraduate subjects – Finno-Ugric languages, Romance languages, Slavic languages or German. The department’s research areas can be found here . Here you will also find the researchers’ profiles; note that even though the researchers are specialized in certain areas, they are also qualified to supervise doctoral students in related areas.
Tasks/Project description: Doctoral education covers four years and is financed through employment as a doctoral student. Doctoral students are expected to devote their main working hours to doctoral education and actively participate in the department’s seminar activities. In addition, some service (e.g. teaching) at the department may occur. The final form of the dissertation project will be defined in consultation with the supervisor.
