The Swedish Institute for North American Studies (SINAS) is part of the Department of English at Uppsala University and Sweden’s only academic institute for research and teaching about North America, primarily the United States. SINAS conducts research, provides courses and promotes the study of the United States. The institute was founded in 1985 and is a resource for researchers at the university’s other departments and other Swedish higher education institutions who are interested in the United States. The institute participates in national and international networks, and has significant outreach activities through collaboration with the surrounding community.

Job duties
SINAS is looking for a part-time research coordinator for a project that runs until 2029. The work primarily consists of providing administrative support for the research, teaching, collaboration and business development conducted at the institute. The position holder is expected to work independently but in close collaboration with the director of SINAS and other employees within the organization.
The tasks consist of:
- to work with administrative aspects of the operations at SINAS
- to coordinate and administer SINAS research seminar
- to coordinate and participate in the design of visiting researcher programs for both doctoral students and senior researchers
- to participate in the work of arranging conferences, workshops, lectures and symposia
- to develop and be responsible for the operation of SINAS’s website and other digital communication tools
Qualification requirements
A large part of the work involves contacts with researchers and organizations both in Sweden and internationally, especially in the USA. Very good knowledge, both spoken and written, of English and Swedish is therefore essential for the position. In addition,
- at least a bachelor’s degree in the humanities or social sciences
- documented experience of working with research administration and research coordination,
- documented good ability to collaborate, build relationships and work independently
- documented ability to work under time pressure with multiple parallel tasks
Desirable/meritorious in other respects
It is otherwise meritorious
- with good knowledge of and experience with the USA and the subject of American Studies
- to have worked with international networks
- to have experience working with marketing, websites, social media, etc.
About the employment
The employment is permanent for a project that runs until 2029-12-31. A probationary period may apply. The scope is 50%. Entry date is April 1, 2025 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala.
