Start of employment: October 2024, the position is available for one year (with the possibility to prolongate)

The University of Bern is the third largest University in Switzerland. The position offers a world-class scientific environment with an outstanding infrastructure.

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join our interdisciplinary research group in the field of Molecular Electronics as part of our SNSF-funded project.

Tasks
You will design and develop a variety of Nitrogenated Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (N-PAHs) encoding functionalization that allows to study in collaboration their charged or excited-states on surfaces using time-resolved AFM/STM. Organic synthesis will be your everyday tool to tackle the challenges associated with achieving fine-tuned electronic properties and various self-assembled nanostructures of N-PAHs.
Your profile
You are an independent, curious, creative, and ambitious team player who enjoys interdisciplinary science, mastering new things, and rigorous experimental work. You possess:

  • PhD degree in organic chemistry with a strong track record
  • Strong background in organic synthesis, preferably with experience in the synthesis of N-PAHs or fused electron donor-acceptor (D-A) ensemble, including work under moisture- and oxygen-free conditions
  • Solid experience with common analytical and purification methods (e.g., NMR, UV-Vis, Cyclic Voltammetry, HPLC, MS)
  • Good command of written and spoken English
We offer
  • Multi-facetted and interesting range of tasks with further education opportunities
  • Progressive employment and social security provisions in accordance with cantonal guidelines
