A Research Technician II position is available at the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine’sDepartment of Oral Biology with Dr. Harim Tavares dos Santos’s research team. The primary objective of this position is to study epithelial biology, with a focus on salivary gland inflammation. The candidate will develop and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments, histological processing and imaging, molecular biology techniques, and perform administrative tasks, as detailed below.
The activities of the Research Technician II will consist of:
- Mammalian cell culture
- DNA/RNA extraction and PCR;
- Protein detection/quantification and cell signaling studies
- Mice: maintaining the mouse colony, drug treatment, breeding and genotyping, and sample harvesting
- Histology (sample preparation)
- Microscopy imaging (brightfield, confocal, and transmission electron microscopy)
- Flow cytometry: multiple channel FACS analysis and immune profiling
- Presenting at scientific meetings for studies that the person conducts
- Administrative duties (taking notes during lab meetings, assisting with purchase orders and inventory management, and managing protocol submissions and documentation, lab organization)
- Training and supervision of new technicians and students
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires education in a biomedical science or related field and at least three years of experience directly related to research or the program.
- Experience working in a research laboratory and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to troubleshoot laboratory protocols.
- Experience with animals.
- Tissue culture skills.
- Histology sample preparation and microscopy imaging.
- Experience in molecular biology: immunoblotting, DNA/RNA extraction and PCR
- Highly self-disciplined.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and basic imaging software
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in ELISA and Flow cytometry;
- Genetic bioinformatic analysis.
Salary Range
$36,000 – $39,014
