General information
Job title: Post-doctorate (M/F) Helicenes for light-matter interaction
Reference: UMR6226-JEACRA-015
Number of positions: 1
Work location: RENNES
Publication date: Friday, June 6, 2025
Type of contract: Researcher on fixed-term contract
Contract duration: 12 months
Expected hiring date: October 1, 2025
Workload: Full
Remuneration: between €2,990 and €4,160 gross monthly depending on experience
Desired level of studies: Doctorate
Desired experience: 1 to 4 years
CN section(s): 12 – Molecular architectures: syntheses, mechanisms and properties
Missions
This project aims to prepare new chiroptical supramolecular systems integrating helical fragments. The combination of strong chiroptical properties (circular dichroism, optical rotation) with more exotic properties such as the emission of circularly polarized light will give access to completely new multifunctional chiral molecules, which can then be involved in the design of materials (chiroptical switches, highly emissive chiral compounds, organic electronic devices for display, spintronic devices). This strategy will therefore aim to increase the functionality and efficiency of these compounds, in a context of energy, digital and industrial transition. To achieve these objectives, we will develop efficient synthetic routes, based on metallo-organic helical molecular bricks and aggregating functions, will be implemented.
Activities
– Synthesize metal-organic helical structures incorporating different types of functionality, including aggregating groups
– Analyze in detail their chiroptical properties
– Study their spin filtering properties
SKILLS
The candidate must hold a PhD in Chemistry. The position requires knowledge of chirality, very good skills in synthesis (organic and organometallic), in classical purification methods, in characterization techniques, in spectroscopic tools and data analysis software, as well as very good communication skills, oral and written (French and English) to be able to present his/her work in conferences, write scientific articles; finally, a very good adaptability to various conditions and countries and creativity will be necessary. We are looking for a person who will be fully involved in this project, with a thirst for knowledge, strong motivation and a certain independence. This will allow him/her to develop strong scientific knowledge in materials science but also in all related skills. The multidisciplinary aspect is also a crucial point.
Work context
Organometallics, Materials and Catalysis (OMC) team at ISCR, located at the University of Rennes. Phosphorus and Molecular Materials (PMM) group. Research areas: chiral pi-conjugated materials. Organometallic helicenes.
This work is carried out within the framework of the PEPR LUMA (targeted action TORNADO).
The position is located in a sector covered by the protection of scientific and technical potential (PPST), and therefore requires, in accordance with regulations, that your arrival be authorized by the competent authority of the MESR.
Constraints and risks
Travel is expected as part of national collaborations.
