Missions

To act as a postdoctoral researcher for the combination of 360-degree vision and robotics (collaborative robot arm, humanoid robot) to enable the dynamic transmission of objects from a person to a robot and carry them together to move them.

Activities

– Activity 1: Background work focused on extending methods for detecting the pose of an object (possibly occluded, even if only partially) held by a person with 360-degree vision on board a robot, in accordance with the detection of mesh and biomechanical variables of this same person. The research will be based on recent spherical representations such as the UniphorM representation.
– Activity 2: Integrate both object and person detection into the control of collaborative robot arms and humanoids to grasp the object without stopping movement, even if it is necessary for the humanoid to move to reach the object
– Activity 3: Produce the associated robotic demonstrators and publish the work in prestigious international journals and conferences

SKILLS

 Knowledge: computer vision, neural networks, robotic control, unconventional cameras, humanoid robotics
 Know-how: formalization of geometric and photometric image models, training of neural networks, software development, hardware installation, oral and written communication in scientific English
 Soft skills: availability, openness, listening skills
 Managerial skills: participating in meetings and activities of the ANR CALL project which finances the contract, supervision of students

Work context

JRL is an international research laboratory with around sixty members in Tsukuba, Japan. It conducts research in humanoid robotics and is involved in numerous collaborative academic and industrial projects producing impressive demonstrations. Its researchers publish their work in the best international journals (IEEE T-RO, IJCV, etc.) and conferences (IEEE ICRA, IEEE/RSJ IROS, etc.) in the field.
As part of the ANR CALL project, this postdoctoral contract offer is for 12 months if less than 2 years of experience. The duration may change depending on experience.
