The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is an internationally leading provider of undergraduate training and education within the fields of rehabilitation technologies, medical devices, and cell/tissue engineering. It is also the host department of the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics (NCPO). The Department provides undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development (CPD) programmes to biome
dical engineers, prosthetists and orthotists, and related healthcare professionals. BME is one of eight academic departments in the Faculty of Engineering which is one of the largest and most successful engineering faculties in the UK and the largest in Scotland. The NCPO is recognised nationally and internationally as a leading centre for training and research in prosthetics and orthotics, and hosts the only UK Prosthetics and Orthotics programme with accreditation from the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics.
Following on from a successful £15.5M refurbishment of the Wolfson Centre, home to BME, to provide state-of-the-art teaching and research spaces to address key national and global health challenges over the coming decades, there is now significant investment in the NCPO estate to develop a webinar /recording studio to support global engagement.
Building upon major investment in the department, and major expansion of our postgraduate and distance-learning degree provisions, the University seeks to make a new appointment to the dynamic and growing NCPO team. The department is seeking to appoint an experienced clinician in the area of Prosthetics and Orthotics, with appropriate undergraduate degree, and with a passion for training future clinicians in the field. In particular, the appointment is to support teaching, distance learning activity, development of online resources to specifically support the suite of Prosthetic and Orthotic Masters programmes and development of online CPD.
The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in education, have the drive and enthusiasm to contribute to the development and delivery of teaching programmes and to enhance student experience. The candidate must have a vision for contributing to knowledge exchange and research activities within the appropriate areas of pedagogical and/or clinical research.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated individual who Is looking for an exciting and diverse role that will contribute significantly to the development of educational resources for online delivery, while growing their skills and experience within a busy and varied working environment.
Given the nature of teaching, research and clinical work in the Department, and the requirement to handle sensitive data, such as health records, the appointee will undergo Disclosure Scotland Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) checks.
