About Postdoctoral Position
The Senior Research Associate in Healthcare Ethics and Law will work with colleagues in the Centre for Ethics in Medicine, Bristol Medical School, and the University of Warwick to deliver the HELPS (High-quality mental capacity assessments for hEalthcare decisions: improving Leadership, assessment Procedures, and service user Support) project. The HELPS project seeks to better understand how decisions about a person’s mental capacity are made in healthcare and explore ways to support better quality decision-making with regard to capacity assessments.
2. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
The post will be part of the team carrying out a Follow-on Evaluation of the Drive Project – a Flagship Intervention to Address High-risk, High-harm Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse, commissioned by the Drive Partnership. The work builds directly on a previous evaluation of DRIVE led by Professor Hester, and involves analysis of police, MARAC, DRIVE case management and victim-related data.
3. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
Postdoctoral Fellowship supported on Professor Krause’s ERC Start-up Grant: Pointwise Ergodic Theory and Multiple Ergodic Averages. You are familiar with at least one of: analytic number theory; Szemerédi phenomenon; time frequency analysis; discrete harmonic analysis. Preference will be given to those applicants who are familiar with the work of Bourgain on pointwise ergodic theory.
4. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
This postdoctoral position will investigate the factors that drove atmospheric CO2 shifts in the Oligocene epoch, which occurred approximately 23 to 34 million years ago. During this epoch, the climate transitioned from a greenhouse to an icehouse, leading to the formation of the Antarctic ice sheet due to a significant atmospheric CO2 decrease (approximately 400 ppm). This position focuses on the modelling part of the large NERC-funded project, TONIC, which aims to examine the interaction between three key factors: (1) the role of the ocean carbon cycle (influenced by climate change), (2) the role of climate (influenced by the carbon cycle, solar radiation, and paleogeography), and (3) the role of ice-sheets (influenced by climate and paleogeography).
5. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
High-quality numerical analysis is a crucial part of the process of understanding the manufacturing and production of composite structures. The role holder will develop and deploy numerical tools for the prediction of manufacturing, based on a physical understanding of the production processes employed. The post holder may also conduct experimental testing, which will provide input information for model generation and validation.
PhD Career: What are the Career Option?
6. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
The postholder will use recent advances in the biosynthesis pathway of brGDGTs to construct molecular clocks to determine when and how bacteria got the ability to make brGDGTs as part of their membrane. The post-holder will work closely with experts in organic geochemistry and evolutionary biology in this interdisciplinary project. The results from this research will provide fundamental insights into how organisms evolve, how their cells operate, and how they adapt to the environment.
7. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
The primary activity of the candidate will be to develop regional scale hydrodynamic models at multiple spatial scales and using these for large ensembles of simulations to characterize uncertainties, principally those arising as a result of climate change. You will be expected to write up results for publication in leading international peer-review journals. You will also collaborate with end users in the engineering, insurance, banking and finance sectors to better understand and document their requirements for uncertainty quantification.
8. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
The primary activity of the candidate will be to collaborate with the research group of Professor Len Shaffrey at the University of Reading to produce a catastrophe risk model for combined flood and windstorm events. This will be based on discovering correlations between high wind speed and rainfall/river flow and then coupling existing flood and windstorm models at Bristol and Reading to allow these to be represented. You will also be expected to write up results for publication in leading international peer-review journals and collaborate with project partners in the risk modelling, insurance, banking and finance sectors.
9. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
We are seeking an enthusiastic self-starter to join our team in the Quantum Engineering Technology Laboratories (QET Labs) at the University of Bristol. Our exciting EPSRC funded project will take laser technology to the next level with the introduction of Tamm Assisted Metasurface Surface Emitting Lasers (TAMSELs). TAMSELs are the future of semiconductor manufacturing, offering unprecedented advantages over traditional semiconductor laser designs. A quantum-inspired technology, they promise to increase manufacturing throughput by 50%, offer post-growth control of laser properties, and unlock the potential for faster modulation and reduced power consumption. TAMSELs have the potential to completely disrupt the sensing and datacentre communications markets.
10. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
The post-holder(s) will perform cutting-edge academic research on the theory of quantum computation. Areas of particular interest include, but are not restricted to: quantum algorithms and their underpinning mathematics; verification/testing of quantum devices; architectures for quantum computers; applications of quantum computers; quantum computational complexity and Hamiltonian complexity; algorithms for simulation of quantum systems, design of methods for reducing errors in quantum measurements.
11. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
The postholder will join a multidisciplinary team working on the inclusiveXplay project (supported by an ERC-selected Consolidator Grant, funded by UKRI), to investigate how cross-sensory and embodied cognition informs the design of novel technologies that can support early motor, cognitive and social development of blind and visually impaired (BVI) preschool-aged children when they interact with their sighted peers. The postholder will lead the engineering aspects of the inclusiveXplay project: to imagine, design, and engineer novel shape-changing interfaces and to investigate how they can be augmented with a richer set of sensory modalities (visual, auditory, haptic, olfactory, and gustatory) for playful control and interaction by children.

13. Postdoctoral Fellowship
About Postdoctoral Position
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary and multi-partner project focused on Transforming Housing and Homes for Future Generations and collaborate with lead researchers in the GW4 Alliance that consists of the most research-intensive and innovative universities in the UK: Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter. The candidate will be based at the University of Bristol, working on the structural performance of energy retrofitting and remodelling solutions with bio-based and non-extractive materials for low-rise houses built between the 1920s and 1940s.

About Postdoctoral Position
This project aims to work closely with partners at Exmoor National Park and the Exmoor Society to develop and applied approach to environmental history that uses historical research to contribute to the addressing the contemporary management challenges facing UK National Parks (e.g. Nature Recovery, Net Zero goals). A particular focus of this research position is the history of Exmoor’s Coastal Forests.

About Postdoctoral Position
The key role of the PDRA is to engineer the surface structure of the solar absorber, Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se)2 and Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 , as well as the junction with the buffer layer in prototype PV devices. The strategy will be underpinned by an Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) tool specifically procured for this programme. The PDRA will be responsible for running the ALD systems, coordinating activities with other PDRAs and PhD students within SolPV, as well as liaising with staff in key facilities in the Faculty of Science including X-Ray Diffraction Suite, Electron Microscopy Suite, NanoESCA laboratory and the Interface Analysis Centre.
