About PhD Program,

The innovative Doctor in Educational Leadership (Ed.D-DEL) is a top ranked, 3-year cohort program in advanced educational leadership practice. The program promotes leadership knowledge and skills for the continuous improvement of education systems to effectively serve all children, youth, and communities. It engages faculty and students in the broader Michigan community to work collaboratively toward just and successful schools, universities, youth serving and organizations that contribute to vital communities and a re-invigorated state.

The (Ed.D-DEL) program uses a collaborative learning and inquiry model that requires a group dissertation in practice. It is a member of the Carnegie Program on the Education Doctorate.

Developing Leaders

The Ed.D-DEL program aims to develop high capacity, innovative leaders and leader networks for Michigan schools, universities, community organizations and other education-related agencies. Program graduates may also become eligible for Michigan Central Office Administrator certification.

PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,

  1. to prepare educational leaders to lead excellent, equitable, and responsive educational systems;
  2. to qualify graduates for the Michigan Central Office Administrator certification;
  3. to provide intellectual leadership around educational issues for school leaders, policy makers, politicians, community leaders, and other interested stakeholders;
  4. to convene forums for democratic deliberation of educational, social, and economic issues so as to play an active role in redevelopment efforts in Michigan while also preparing students to be agents for change within their own districts or areas;
  5. to support high caliber collaborative action research that puts innovative solutions to work while advancing outreach, engagement, and economic development and strengthening linkages to other MSU units and to external partners.

PhD Funding Coverage,

Doctoral student funding reports the percent of either new or continuing graduate students who are offered (if new) or have (if continuing) a “full funding” package. “Full funding” is typically a ½ time (20 hours/week) graduate assistantship or a fellowship or a combination of both for a similar amount, but does vary by graduate program.
