About PhD Program,
Purdue graduate students can earn either a thesis or non-thesis Masters degree or a Doctoral degree with the opportunity to develop their own major and minor area(s) of study. Each degree program consists of certain requirements, yet at the same time, our graduate students have tremendous flexibility in designing a plan of study that meets their interests.
Another strength of our graduate program is its diversity. Our graduate student community consists of individuals from China, Germany, India, Lebanon, South Korea, Turkey, and the United States, to name a few. Our community members’ diversity contributes to the diversity of thought that you will find in our program. In addition, our faculty and graduate students embrace diverse approaches to research.
This is an exciting time to be a member of the Lamb School of Communication at Purdue. I invite you to continue to explore our website and learn more about our graduate program. I also encourage you to get in touch with me at gradcom@purdue.edu, to learn more about opportunities for graduate studies in Communication at Purdue. We look forward to hearing from you.
PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
Students in our program create tailor-made plans of study in collaboration with their faculty advisor and committee. Students are expected to take courses in the Lamb School as well as other academic units across campus. Our primary goal is to help graduate students plan a course of study that is uniquely suited to helping them meet their academic and professional goals.
Our school evaluates each application to the graduate program using multiple criteria, including undergraduate/master’s grades, letters of recommendation, fit with our faculty, and prior work/life experience. Median undergraduate GPA for admitted students is 3.7 (4-point scale). If you feel your overall application is a good fit for our program, we encourage you to apply.
PhD Funding Coverage,
A variety of internal funding options are available in Purdue’s Brian Lamb School of Communication. Most of this funding is provided through teaching assistantships that waive tuition, most student fees, and pays a monthly salary (see below for amounts). With few exceptions, graduate students accepted into the on-campus program receive this funding, contingent on fulfilling degree milestones and requirements. In addition to the fellowships, assistantships, and grants listed below, there are also a number of external and internal funding options including other assistantships, fellowships, and travel grants.
