About Master’s Program,
The Master of Arts in Communication degree requires all students to complete 30 credit hours.
Incoming students are expected to have had at least twelve hours of appropriate undergraduate work in communication. Should the graduate faculty believe there is a deficiency in the applicant’s undergraduate work in communication, students may be required to enroll in additional undergraduate classes that do not count toward the master’s degree.
Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
Admission to the Graduate Program in Communication is highly competitive, as the number of applicants is far greater than the number of available spaces. New graduate students are admitted for fall enrollment only.
Each year, our graduate admissions committee is tasked with the challenge of selecting the best from a pool of highly qualified applicants. We consider all elements of the application. However, per a UK Graduate School rule, students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher from their undergraduate and graduate institution to be considered for admission.
Master’s Funding Coverage,
The college scholarship application for the Graduate Program in Communication will open in early January and close later in the semester.
Assistantships are highly competitive and acceptance into the program does not guarantee a funding offer.
Students who present research at major communication conferences are eligible to receive funding for conference travel. Students can apply for conference travel awards.
The amount of funding available per year varies, but individual students have received $800-1000 annually for travel support (sometimes more if funds permit).
