Master of Divinity: a three-year program designed to prepare students for diverse ministries of congregational leadership, for graduate study in theology and related disciplines, and for various types of ministries

Master of Theological Studies: a flexible two-year academic degree designed to equip graduates for a doctoral level program, teaching positions, or for various forms of specialized ministry

The Master of Theological Studies (MTS) degree program invites you to sharpen your research skills, build a strong understanding of the theological disciplines, and continue your lifelong journey of faith and discovery. 

Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,   

The Master of Divinity requires successful completion of 78 credits from six primary categories. Students take at least three courses from each academic department of the Seminary.

Foundation Courses (20 credits)

Prepare to lead a congregation, pursue an advanced degree, or engage in chaplaincy or other forms of ministry around the world. The foundational professional degree for ministry, the Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree program equips you to answer God’s call while providing the flexibility to pursue your own specific interests.

Pursuing a degree at Princeton Seminary is more affordable than you think! 100% of full-time residential students receive scholarships, ranging from partial tuition to full tuition plus a stipend.

No additional application is needed to be considered for financial aid — simply apply for admission by your program deadline, and if admitted you’ll automatically be eligible for aid, either in the form of a merit scholarship (for full-time residential students) or a reduced tuition rate (for part-time hybrid students). It’s that easy! Scholarships are typically awarded at the time of admission.  

Application Requirement,

  • An undergraduate degree (typically a BA or BS) from a schoolaccredited by one of the accrediting agencies recognized by our faculty
  • Completed admissions application
  • Unofficial transcripts from all post-secondary institutions previously attended must be uploaded
  • Three letters of recommendation: one pastoral endorsement, one academic, and one additional
  • Application fee of $50

An interview is strongly recommended, but not required. However, those who want to be eligible for merit scholarships must complete an interview prior to the January 15 deadline for merit scholarship consideration. Interviews may be scheduled online anytime after starting your application, and we encourage applicants to schedule their interviews early in the process as slots fill up quickly.
