About Master’s Program,
The Master of Divinity Program at the University of Notre Dame serves the Catholic Church and its mission by preparing men and women for ministerial and apostolic service in, with, and for the Church. Focusing on the human, intellectual, pastoral, and spiritual dimensions of personal development in preparation for lay and ordained ecclesial ministry, candidates have the opportunity both to reflect on the Church’s theological tradition and to experience and to share first-hand in its ministerial life. It is in this way that they personally engage and express in their own life and circumstances the Mystery of Faith, seeking to configure their life and ministry to Christ, their Lord and the Model for all ministry.
Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
Admission requirements and deadlines vary from program to program. Applicants should review the websites for the programs to which they are applying via the Departments and Programs page for additional information.
Many requirements, however, are consistent across programs, depending on whether the applicant is degree- or non-degree-seeking (visit the Application Categories page to understand the difference.)
These requirements include a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, as well as an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or greater on a 4.0 scale. The rest of the general requirements are listed below.
Please note that all required application materials must be attached to the online application, and that test scores should be ordered and sent by the testing service to the University of Notre Dame (institution code: 1841).
Master’s Funding Coverage,
Master’s programs offer varying levels of support, ranging from tuition assistantship to full tuition plus a stipend. Students should check with their individual program to learn what level of funding is available. Professional master’s programs normally do not cover tuition, meaning that the student is responsible for payment. (Merit-based scholarships are occasionally available.)
Tuition Scholarships are also available for summer courses. See eligibility and application.
The Graduate School also offers a number of select fellowships that provide support up to $45,000/year as well as other advantages. Learn more>
In addition, the Graduate School’s Office of Grants and Fellowships assists students in applying for both internal and external funding.
