About Master’s Program,

The Faculty of Education at Memorial University is responsible for the professional preparation of those who will give leadership in education. This includes the professional preparation of teachers, administrators, and specialists who will work in primary, elementary, and secondary schools, and post-secondary institutions. The work of the faculty incorporates undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as continuing education. The mandate includes specialized research for the improvement of pedagogical practice, and broadly based research for the advancement of knowledge. The faculty initiates and responds to change through a wide range of programs and a variety of field services. It seeks to prepare educators who will have a reasoned philosophy of education, an appreciation of what knowledge is of most worth, a genuine love of learning, and the ability to think critically. It strives to prepare educators who have an understanding of the past, a plan for the present, and a vision for the future.

The Master of Education in Educational Leadership Studies is designed to prepare candidates for leadership in Education. It prepares candidates to assume leadership roles in a variety of settings, including school and district leadership, post-secondary institutions and policy analysis.

Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,   

Graduate diploma and MEd – Bachelor’s degree (minimum second class or 70% average in last 90 credit hours) and teaching or work-related experience. Some programs have prerequisites.

Master’s Funding Coverage,

Memorial University offers competitive funding packages to academically eligible full-time graduate students, both Canadian and international, in all eligible research programs.

In 2023-2024, over 2,000 graduate students were awarded more than $30 million in financial support.

Students may refer to the Guidelines for the Awarding of SGS Fellowships and Graduate Student Support for more information on internal funding and awards.

The value of funding will depend on the graduate program a student is admitted to. Funding sources include:

  • School of Graduate Studies fellowships – ranging from $4,000 to $12,000 per year
  • graduate assistantships (employment) – ranging from $3,000 to $6,000 in accordance with the TAUMUN collective agreement
  • supervisor grants/contracts – ranging from $3,000 to $15,000 per year
  • special initiatives funding – ranging from $5,000 to $8,000 per year
