About Master’s Program,
Our graduate degree develops a student’s capacity for creative, cumulative, and critical thinking; design literacy; and lifelong cultivation of design. Accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), the program is for students who seek professional licensure. Apply through June 1st to begin the Fall program. Applications completed prior to the Priority Deadline date of January 31st will be eligible for priority consideration of financial assistance opportunities (i.e., graduate assistantships, scholarships, etc.).
Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
To be eligible for admission in the Ball State Graduate School, you must have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an institution recognized by an USDE accrediting association. Some doctoral and specialist degree programs (but not all) require a master’s degree from an institution recognized by an USDE accrediting association.

We’re a welcoming community eager to provide you with meaningful ways to help you on your academic journey. Our graduate assistantships pair you with faculty mentors as you support research, teaching, and other departmental and college programs and initiatives.
GAs receive stipends and tuition waivers (dedicated, mandatory, and program-related fees still apply). See tuition and fee rates.
Interested? Mention you are interested in an assistantship in your admission letter. No application is required. Students are automatically considered.
Teaching assistants support faculty assigned to teaching required undergraduate courses. TAs’ duties include assisting in preparing readings, participating in studio and lab session reviews, taking part in (but not being solely responsible for) evaluating student work, and helping to organize field trips.

GRE: Due to NAAB Accreditation Standards the Masters of Architecture program minimum GPA is a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, any applicant with a GPA lower than the required minimum will be required to submit GRE scores to the Department for review before final acceptance will be made. Your Cardinal Landing Portal will be updated with this request if you need to submit GRE scores.
Portfolio (5GB max): Include previous design work in university courses and studios and/or professional practice. If teamwork is shown, you must clearly indicate your role. Artistic work and hands-on building work may also be included. When uploading your portfolio to your Cardinal Landing portal, please ensure all materials are submitted as one PDF file.
Two letters of recommendation: You must provide email addresses for two references, who will be notified electronically to complete a recommendation letter on your behalf as part of the application process.
Statement of purpose or letter of intent: Address the following in 500-1,000 words,
what are your interests and ambitions for your graduate studies?;
how do your previous design and work experiences connect with these goals?;
consider how you might provide additional information to describe your portfolio further.
Please note: this statement will also be evaluated as a writing sample.
