Computer technology continues to advance, with applications used in all fields and disciplines. Computers and software aid, inform and enrich our life. Students interested in exploring Computer Science beyond the basics of undergraduate study can deepen their knowledge and gain targeted, cutting-edge expertise through graduate study.
Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
Admission decisions are based on the qualifications of the applicant as well as the ability of the Department of Computer Science and the University of Manitoba to serve the applicant’s intended program of study and area of specialization.
In addition to the admission requirements of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, to be considered for admission to the MSc in Computer Science program, you must have:
A four-year bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science with a suitable selection of courses.
Students in the thesis-based program must complete:
12 credit hours of coursework at the 7000 level or higher, including the three credit hour Research Methodologies course
a research-based thesis and successfully defend it

As of September 1, 2023, all newly admitted students to a Computer Science graduate program at the University of Manitoba are automatically considered for financial support. MSc students admitted to the program are funded at a minimum rate of $20,000 per year for the first two years of their program. PhD students receive a minimum of $23,000 per year for the first four years of their program. This funding can come from a variety of sources, including supervisor grants, scholarships, and work as a teaching assistant, grader, or sessional instructor. Maintaining funding is contingent on satisfactory progress.
