About Master’s Program,
The Boston University Master of Science in Journalism prepares students to excel as master storytellers, with an emphasis on narrative writing and digital and visual journalism across platforms. Over three semesters, you’ll learn to analyze and explain complex events, across multiple media, while upholding top journalism standards.
First-semester classes prepare you to work across platforms in a professional newsroom. Classwork focuses on law, ethics, techniques of journalism and introduction to digital media with an emphasis on reporting, news judgment, writing and visual skills.

Our Master’s program in journalism is designed to produce graduates who are trained to analyze and explain the complex events of our times, as well as raise journalistic standards in all media forms. Throughout your career as a journalist, you will be called upon to tackle a number of issues and stories; as such, a cross-platform knowledge of the industry is essential. You will become a content expert across all media while sampling electives from a variety of areas, including public policy, photojournalism, science, sports, magazine, foreign reporting, and more.
Master’s Funding Coverage,
The College of Communication’s financial aid resources include various scholarship funds and graduate assistantships (teaching, research, administrative). In addition, graduate students can apply for federal educational loans and private educational loan funds. Numerous on-campus and off-campus employment opportunities are also available.
$30,000 – $34,000 per academic year
COM scholarship awards are merit-based on academic promise and the availability of funds. COM scholarships are only awarded during the admission process. All full-time students (both domestic and international) who apply for admission are automatically considered for COM merit-based scholarships.
