About Master’s Program,
The graduate diploma and MA program in Classics at Memorial offers students the opportunity to expand and deepen their knowledge of ancient Greece and Rome. The department is able to provide a flexible course of studies that caters to the individual needs and interests of students. Specific areas of strength are Roman Studies, including literary and cultural studies; Greek literature and historiography; and more broadly, the relation between literary texts and material culture within the various subdisciplines of classical studies.
- MA – The Department of Classics offers an MA in Classics, with an emphasis on classical texts and research methods, which suitably prepared students may complete in two years of full-time study, normally beginning in September.
Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
- Graduate diploma, MA – Bachelor’s degree (minimum second class) in an appropriate area of study. In addition to these requirements, applicants should have completed at least 30 undergraduate credit hours in Greek and Latin language courses including a minimum of 12 credit hours in each language and at least 6 credit hours from senior level courses.

Memorial University offers competitive funding packages to academically eligible full-time graduate students, both Canadian and international, in all eligible research programs.
In 2023-2024, over 2,000 graduate students were awarded more than $30 million in financial support.

Internal Funding Sources
The value of funding will depend on the graduate program a student is admitted to. Funding sources include:
- School of Graduate Studies fellowships – ranging from $4,000 to $12,000 per year
- graduate assistantships (employment) – ranging from $3,000 to $6,000 in accordance with the TAUMUN collective agreement
- supervisor grants/contracts – ranging from $3,000 to $15,000 per year
- special initiatives funding – ranging from $5,000 to $8,000 per year
