About Master’s Program,

Thank you for your interest in the University of Idaho’s M.A.-English Program, which offers training and support for students wishing to take their studies in English one step further. While studying here, you’ll work with internationally renowned and award-winning faculty in linguistics, literature, and rhetoric and composition in the beautiful panhandle of Northern Idaho and the foothills of Moscow Mountain.

We’ve designed our program with you in mind, allowing you to choose your own unique path through your M.A. degree. Our faculty have expertise in the environmental humanities, affect theory, narratology, 19th-century literature, contemporary literature, applied linguistics, rhetoric, and digital misinformation; our flexible curriculum provides opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Recent seminars have focused on climate change fiction, archival research, Victorian sensation fiction, 21st-century rural literature, science communication, and linguistics and social media.

Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,

Our degree requirements are designed to give students maximum choice in their degree, and we encourage you to focus your studies in ways that best reflect your interests. To complete the M.A.-English degree, you need to earn 30 credits of graduate-level English coursework and 3 credits of Master’s-level research.

Master’s Funding Coverage,

The University of Idaho offers more than $25 million in scholarship awards annually, and the majority of these scholarships do not require separate applications. Students are automatically considered once they apply for admission. These scholarships are awarded based on merit, financial need, outstanding achievement in specialized field, or any combination of these criteria.

In addition, the Department of English offers teaching assistantships, scholarships, fellowships, and awards administered through our department’s generous endowments to help you fund your graduate education.
