About Master’s Program,

The Department has many outstanding researchers in Mathematics and Statistics with international reputations. We also pride ourselves on the excellence of our teaching and research training. As a graduate student you will have an extensive curriculum to choose from, with both fundamental and advanced courses in every branch of mathematics.  The links on the left hand menu give further specific details.

Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,   

  • The minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA) is 3.0 out of a possible 4.0, or a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.2 out of 4.0 in the last two years of full-time studies. In some departments, a higher CGPA may be required for admission. Consultyour program requirements for details.
  • A Bachelor’s degree(or equivalent as recognized by McGill University) in a subject closely related to the one selected for graduate studies.
  • Proficiency in English: The primary language of instruction at McGill is English. You may make arrangements to write papers, examinations or theses in French, except in cases where knowledge of the English language is one of the objectives of the course. Prior to admission, you may need to demonstrate an adequate level of proficiency in English. For more information, visit the English Language Proficiency

Master’s Funding Coverage,

All graduate students in Mathematics and Statistics who are accepted into our masters or doctoral programs receive funding. We provide funding in terms of stipend, scholarships and opportunities for teaching assistant salary and the amount of funding varies greatly by the level of tuition fees.  Please review our Fees section for more details.

Application Fee,

The non-refundable application fee for Winter 2025 is $132.90 CAD. For Summer 2025 and Fall 2025, the application fee will be $136.90 CAD. With one application fee, you can submit up to two applications in the same term to two different programs. Some programs may have additional fees.
