The department provides diverse opportunities for graduate studies in fundamental and applied research in all areas of mechanical, aerospace and nuclear engineering. PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,   

  • Students interested in applying for themechanical engineering graduate program should have a degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, material science engineering, industrial engineering, biomedical engineering, engineering physics, physics, chemistry, or a related field.
  • An Undergraduate GPA equivalent to at least a ‘B’ is required to be eligible for admission
  • For students on a 4.0 scale, a minimum GPA of 3.0 is required
  • Chinese applicants on the 100 point scale should have a GPA of at least a 75/100.
  • Indian applicants should have a GPA of at least 5/10, 50/100, or have a degree classification of 2nd class or higher.
  • For all other applicants, you must have a GPA equivalent to a ‘B’ or higher at your undergraduate institution.

PhD Funding Coverage,

Graduate students at Ohio State have a variety of funding options available to them including fellowships, associateships, loans, scholarships and other university employment opportunities. All PhD and MS – Thesis students recommended for admission are eligible for funding consideration. MS Non-Thesis admitted students will not be considered for funding and must plan to self-fund or have non-OSU support to fund their graduate studies. The majority of our PhD and MS – Thesis students are supported by a university fellowship or a graduate associateship, both of which are described below. Students who are supported by a fellowship or an associateship receive a monthly stipend, a fee authorization for tuition and fees and a health insurance subsidy through the university while they are funded by one of those types of support.

Any documents submitted other than the required items above will not be included in your application to be reviewed as only the required materials are used in the review process. This includes GRE scores. .
