About Master’s Program,
Acquire knowledge and experience in subject areas such as tourism studies and migration, that is applicable to a specific career path with this one-year program in French, German, or Italian. Students spend one summer at the Language Schools and are required to complete the degree with an academic year abroad and an international internship.
Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
Graduate degrees are for students who have already acquired graduate-level proficiency in their language. The GRE is not required.
Applicants have generally studied their language for four years or longer, unless they are native speakers. Applicants must hold a BA or its equivalent from a regionally accredited institution and must have completed coursework equivalent to a major in the target language or be able to demonstrate the equivalent level of linguistic proficiency. Applicants who will not hold a BA, or who plan to attend for one summer only for professional development, should select the 6-week nondegree program.
All graduate students must successfully complete an initial six-week graduate summer session on the Vermont campus before establishing their candidacy for the MA degree. The MA degree requires successful completion of 12 course units. Middlebury awards one unit of graduate credit (equivalent to three semester hours) for each graduate course. The normal course load is 3 course units per summer.
