Fully Funded MFA in Creative Writing at Miami University

About Master’s Program,

Small, intensive and supportive, merging a playful approach to contemporary experimentation with an ambitious exploration of literary traditions, Miami University’s MFA program draws students from across the country and beyond to classes in creative nonfiction, poetry, fiction, multimedia and performance writing.

Master’s Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,   

You must have earned a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75 out of 4.00.

All graduate applicants must possess at least a U.S. equivalent Baccalaureate degree and submit proof of it along with an academic record or transcript. We accept unofficial transcripts along with your application.

Once you have been admitted to Miami University, you must submit an official final transcript from your Baccalaureate institution and all courses attended after. Please send your official final transcripts directly to Miami University Graduate Admission, 301 S. Campus Avenue, Oxford, OH, 45056, or via Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse to Grad_Transcripts@MiamiOH.edu.

Master’s Funding Coverage,

All students admitted to the MFA program in Creative Writing hold generous Graduate Assistantships, teaching first-year composition in Miami’s renowned rhetoric and composition program. Non-teaching assistantships may also be available. Students teach creative writing during the second year.

Qualifying new and current students can apply to receive one of the many financial awards the Graduate School offers. The Office of Research and Innovation also compiles a list of funding opportunities to support student research.

The Graduate School provides financial assistance to current students through a variety of awards, many of which are made possible through generous alumni support. Please note that students in Market Driven Tuition programs may not be eligible for these awards.

Application Requirement,

Most Miami graduate programs require additional application materials such as a personal statement, writing sample, or test score (e.g., GRE, GMAT). For a listing of supplemental materials, please contact the Academic Program.

If your program requires the GRE, please send your official GRE score reports to Miami University Graduate School by using ETS Code 1463. If you have a financial need, ETS offers reduced test fees for some students. Contact ETS for additional information.
