About PhD Program,
Chemical Engineering has been taught at McGill since 1908. The first doctorate was awarded in 1935, and our program has subsequently grown to accommodate approximately 90 full-time PhD and MEng candidates, and postdoctoral researchers. Our alumni occupy many key positions in industrial, academic and governmental organizations in Canada and throughout the world.
The Department offers advanced graduate courses that emphasize important core fundamentals, such as heat & mass transfer, fluid mechanics, computational methods, and thermodynamics, as well as more specialized courses in the bioengineering, environmental and materials sciences.
PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
- A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent as recognized by McGill University) in a subject closely related to the one selected for graduate studies.
- Unless otherwise specified, the Master’s program at McGill requires the completion of a four-year undergraduate degree in a related area at a recognized institution. PhD Funding Coverage,
Studying at the graduate level is a full-time commitment. We require every student pursuing a thesis-based degree to be funded.
Students are expected to apply for a series of awards, scholarships and fellowships. When students acquire external funding, it is required that this be reported to Chemical Engineering’s Graduate Program Coordinator (GPC) as soon as possible.
Students are also expected to maintain dialogue with their supervisor(s) regarding funding requirements and funding sources.
McGill’s Chemical Engineering Department is pleased to offer a series of prestigious award packages such as the McGill Engineering Undergraduate Student Masters Award (MEUSMA) for MSc students and the McGill Engineering Doctoral Award (MEDA) for PhD students.
Other internal awards include the McCall MacBain Scholarship for MSc students, the Eugenie Ulmer Lamothe Entrance (EUL) Awards for domestic MSc students, and the Vadasz Scholars Program for PhD students.
Additional funding opportunities can be found on the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website.
