About PhD Program,
We have two graduate programs: a Freestanding MA program that may be completed in one year (full-time) or up to four years (part-time) and PhD program that takes a minimum of four years (and usually longer) to complete.

- Students admitted to the PhD program will be fully-funded for six years. There is only limited financial aid for students admitted to the Freestanding MA program. Financial aid awards, and their amounts, will be confirmed only after admission to the MA program.
PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
The GSAS Office of Admissions does not provide information regarding a program’s prerequisite requirements. Please consult the departmental websites for that information. All program-related questions not covered on this website should be addressed directly to the department.
Applicants must submit all materials directly, not through an agent or third-party vendor, with the sole exception of submissions by the US Department of State’s Fulbright Program and its three partner agencies IIE, LASPAU and AMIDEAST, and by the Danish-American Fulbright Commission (DAF), and Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD).
PhD Funding Coverage,
All doctoral students are fully funded with tuition, fees, and a stipend. Funding is guaranteed for 6 years. International students and U.S. citizens receive the same funding. Please see the section on funding on the GSAS website for more information.
