About PhD Program,
Our MA program combines an in-depth study of traditional international studies with issue-oriented specialization and opportunities for internships or advanced research. A flexible and mostly self-directed degree, our MA has specialties in quantitative methods, environmental protection, policy making, global health and specific geographic areas.
This degree is favored by students pursuing careers in the government, private and non-profit sectors, as well as those considering a PhD. Graduates from the program currently work for the Department of State, Department of Energy, United States Agency for International Development, World Bank, United Nations Development Programme, Red Cross and Human Rights Watch.

We value the diversity of backgrounds, ideas, and individuals that enrich our community, and in continuing a long history of holistic review processes, the Korbel School now offers test-optional admissions. Applicants to the MA and MPP programs no longer need to submit GRE scores to be considered for admission and merit-based aid.

We offer a range of financial aid options, including departmental scholarships, federal loans and work-study positions for graduate students.
Degree-seeking master’s applicants who pursue full-time studies are automatically considered for competitive, merit-based aid during the review process. There is no separate application. Simply apply by the priority deadline of January 15 for best consideration.
