Fully Funded PhD in School Psychology at Michigan State University

About PhD Program,

The Michigan State University School Psychology Ph.D. program’s overall mission is to equip psychologists with the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to provide quality psychological services to children, youth and families in multiple settings, as well as to conduct research in related areas. The program includes a planned sequence of coursework in school psychology and supporting disciplines, complemented by practica and internship experiences. Students in the program receive the training necessary to become both a Certified School Psychologist in Michigan, as well as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP). Students are also license-eligible as psychologists, pending completion of state-level licensure requirements.

PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,

The MSU School Psychology doctoral program typically consists of five to six years of academic coursework and research training beyond the bachelor’s degree, including an accumulated 1,100 hours of practicum experience in applied settings and a year-long, full-time internship (2,000 hours). These experiences support our scientist-practitioner model of training.

Please see our Ph.D. Program Handbook to view a typical five-year training sequence. Details about these and other doctoral program requirements including practicum, internship, the comprehensive exam, and research requirements can be found in this document as well.

Applicants typically score in the above average range (e.g., above the 65th percentile) on the GRE and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Ph.D. students have received half-time assistantships for 4 years. Additional supports via training grants have been provided to both Ph.D. and Ed.S. students.
