Fully Funded PhD in Sociology at New York University

About PhD Program,

A doctorate is the pinnacle of an arts and science education. Founded in 1886, the Graduate School of Arts and Science at NYU is among the oldest schools offering doctoral programs in the United States. Today NYU’s doctoral programs span the humanities, sciences, and social sciences, and students pursue cutting-edge research with the close supervision of NYU’s internationally recognized research faculty. New York City resources complement and enhance our vibrant intellectual communities. Use the links below to explore Doctor of Philosophy and dual advanced degrees at New York University.

PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,

GRE is required and there will be no waivers granted.

We do not keep track of the average GPA or GRE score of admitted students. GPAs and GREs are one of several factors we consider when making admission decisions. We also consider research experiences, statement of research interests, fit with the graduate program, and other factors.

All students admitted into the Ph.D. program are offered full funding from NYU. We do not offer additional slots for students who are able to pay for tuition on their own.

PhD Funding Coverage,

The Dean’s Fellowship provides either four or five years of full-funding fellowship support, consisting of a 12-month stipend; a full tuition scholarship, including registration and services fees; student health insurance; a one-time start-up stipend; a guaranteed spot in the MacCracken Housing Program, if you apply, for your first year of study; and an annual housing subsidy beginning in the second year of study. The Graduate School will award 32 Dean’s Fellowships for fall 2024 admission. The Dean’s Fellowship improves the full-funding MacCracken Fellowship that a student would have already received if admitted to the Ph.D. program.
