Overview
This work will explore community-based palliative care. Through this research we will understand support needs and identify ways to optimise care delivery.
Background:
The need for palliative care is expected to increase in the future. Community-based palliative care will be important in meeting this demand and supporting patients and their families. However, there is a need to explore the provision of community-based palliative care and support needs to optimize care delivery.
Aim:
This project will explore community-based palliative care to identify support needs and optimise care delivery.
Objectives:
1. Review of current community-based provision.
2. Identify the support needs of providers, patients and their families.
3. Identify facilitators and barriers to implementation and coordination of community-based support in palliative care.
4. Recommend strategies to enhance community-based palliative care delivery.
Methodology:
A scoping review will be conducted to explore current community-based support in palliative care provision. Results from the review will inform semi-structured interviews which will be undertaken to identify support needs and facilitators and barriers to care delivery. Results will be analysed thematically and strategies to enhance community-based palliative care identified.
Expected outcomes:
It is expected that this research will increase understanding of the provision of community-based palliative care; enhance understanding of the support needs of providers, patients and their families; and support the delivery of holistic community-based support in palliative care.
