Historical Institute, Professorship for Swiss and Modern General History
Start of employment: 1 April 2025 or by arrangement

The Chair of Swiss and Modern General History at the Historical Institute of the University of Bern is looking to fill a postdoc position. The position is initially limited to two years, with the option of extension for up to four additional years.

Tasks
  • Research on a postdoc project related to modern Swiss history (19th-21st century)
  • Leading an average of one course per semester and supervising student work to a limited extent
  • Support of the Ordinariate in research, teaching and administrative tasks
  • Participation in the academic self-administration of the institute and faculty
Requirements
  • Completed and assessed as very good doctorate in history (employment up to a maximum of 3 years after doctorate)
  • Proven teaching experience and/or willingness to undertake further didactic training
  • Strong team and communication skills as well as the ability to organize oneself
  • Interest in the research priorities of the professorship, in approaches to gender, cultural and knowledge history as well as interdisciplinary working contexts
  • Regular presence at the workplace
