About PhD Position

The main aim of this position will be to apply bioinformatical analysis and modelling to understand zoonotic events at the molecular, organismal, and population scales: While SARS-CoV-2 is the latest virus to cause a pandemic, an enormous number of other viruses lurk at the animal-human interface, well-positioned to make the leap. We aim to understand why zoonotic events occur, including the roles of viral replication and evolution in the host organism, immune-response and evasion, human-animal interaction dynamics, receptor binding and internalization in human cells, and potential for pathogen spread. What molecular signatures are necessary? What determines how likely an animal virus is to jump and evolve in a new host? Can we minimize the risk?

About PhD Position

As the global energy landscape evolves towards sustainable solutions, PtX hybrid power plants (comprising of diverse co-located energy assets such as electrolyzers, wind/solar units, batteries, etc) have been emerging as pivotal contributors to the green transition. The main products of hybrid power plants are power, hydrogen, and various frequency-supporting ancillary services. Nonetheless, investment in hybrid power plants is still risky both financially and technically due to several types of uncertainties related to renewable productions, market price fluctuations, resource availability, supply chain disruptions, interest rate, etc. This PhD position aims to investigate optimal strategies for long-term contracts, including Power/Hydrogen Purchase Agreements (PPAs/HPAs), for risk-averse investment in hybrid power plants.

About PhD Position

Human energy expenditure is a fundamental characteristic of cycling – cyclists must spend energy pedalling to make the bicycle move forward. However, minimal research has been conducted to understand the impacts of energy expenditure on behaviour. We aim to address this gap by developing a network model to describe individual-specific energy usage and corresponding route choice models that consider the unique aspects of human energy expenditure. These new insights will be utilised in various ways to explore the potential to improve public health and increase active mobility.

About PhD Position

The main objective of ADELE is to implement adaptive optics ideas from light optics and metasurfaces for electron beams by developing reconfigurable phase plates (PPs). These are devices that we can use to control precisely the phase of the electron beam, which is crucial to the advancement of electron imaging, spectroscopy techniques and nanofabrication. Inspired by the well-established field of light optics, adaptive optics in the context of this project means real-time beam-shaping of the electron beam used as a probe in transmission electron microscopy.

10. Fully Funded PhD Program

About PhD Position

The purpose of this PhD project is to investigate whether mussels and wild animals could be a possible vehicle for the monitoring of resistant bacteria in the environment. To include environment in the surveillance system of resistant bacteria and antimicrobial usage is high on the agenda in Denmark as well as globally. Findings could hence be used in the decision-process about how the surveillance should be in the future. The project is a part of the Animal Health and Welfare Partnership, and the work will hence be done in co-operation with colleagues from European Universities and Research Institutes.

The fault management and maintenance/renovation practices in district heating networks are currently limited to reactive or preventive approaches. These inefficient practices pose significant challenges to the performance of modern district heating systems. Furthermore, the aging infrastructure of many district heating systems necessitates constant renovation. However, the existing approach to renovation planning is suboptimal and lacks a proactive strategy. Addressing these challenges is crucial for improving the performance and reliability of district heating systems. We have an opening at DTU Engineering Technology for a PhD-student on developing Prescriptive Analytics tool for District Heating Networks addressing these challenges.

About PhD Position

Learning visual recognition models requires huge amounts of data, especially when relying on data-hungry deep neural networks. These data need to be manually and passively annotated by humans. This labeling procedure is one of the most important steps in a machine learning pipeline and is tedious, expensive, and susceptible to noise leading to erroneous labels. We aim to establish a deeper human-machine collaboration for all stages of the learning pipeline via multimodal labeling and learning. The goal of this project is to leverage information from different modalities that naturally occur near web images to assist the image annotation. You will develop state-of-the-art multimodal models for self-supervision with human-in-the-loop text supervision. This PhD project will be supervised by Associate Professor (DTU).
