8. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

Scripps Research is seeking a motivated postdoctoral associate to work in the area of neural circuits and neuroendocrine biology of metabolism. It is now well-established that communication between the brain and the gut, the so-called gut-brain axis, regulates important aspects of behavior and metabolism in many species. However, the salient mechanisms and molecular features of gut-brain communication remain mysterious.

In our lab, we utilize C. elegans as a model system for our discovery studies of gut-brain communication, in which we utilize cutting-edge technologies to measure dynamic neural and metabolic activity in living animals. Such cell-based readouts are coupled with changes in behavior and metabolism, to uncover novel pathways all the way from molecules to whole-animal biology. We also conduct studies in mouse models and in human cells using a variety of approaches to discover unknown mechanisms underlying mammalian physiology.

14. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

The Ghadiri Laboratory at the Scripps Research, Department of Chemistry, and the Skaggs Institute for Chemical Biology is currently seeking talented Postdoctoral Associate candidates with a strong background in biology, molecular biology, chemical biology, and/or biochemistry.

The lab is developing new, general approaches to control the site and timing of enzyme activity. Enzymes have great potential as therapeutic and diagnostic agents due to their high specificity and catalytic activity, but the ability to better control the timing and location of enzyme function would enable the use of a wider variety of enzymes for therapeutic purposes. Our approach for enzyme programming relies on attaching an enzyme to its small-molecule inhibitor through an allosteric DNA tether.
