3. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow who will strive to make a meaningful impact on maternal and child health by contributing to leading-edge research aimed at improving pain management.

Pain management is often under-emphasized, yet inadequate pain relief can interfere with a mother’s ability to care for her child, and can disrupt sleep, impact behaviour and cause vomiting in children. In light of the current opioid crisis, there is increased urgency to balance both safety and effectiveness of opioid-based analgesics, while simultaneously limiting the use of opioids. Given the resulting hesitancy associated with prescribing opioids, we are likely undertreating pain in women and children.

8. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

The mission of the Cassie & Friends International Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology is to provide training to PhD researchers in the field of pediatric rheumatology and to support future investigative careers in the improved understanding of rheumatic diseases. The rheumatic disease family is a collection of multiple diseases that include the more commonly known juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), rarer conditions like vasculitis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and a relatively new group of autoinflammatory diseases. Despite genetic and phenotypic differences, all rheumatic diseases are characterized by relapsing and remitting episodes of pain and inflammation. They provide a clear example of morbidity and disability that results from immune dysregulation and uncontrolled inflammation.

20. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

This project will develop a real-time console for firefighters to respond to extensive wildfire situations more effectively. The proposed solution will consist of three parts. A real-time fire propagation model, a network of sensors based on 5G technology, and a What-if simulator to combine the fire responders’ actions with the predicted propagation. As opposed to other natural disasters (e.g., earthquakes), in the case of fires, the propagation of the fire is directly affected by the responder’s actions.

As a result, accurate and fast prediction of the responders’ actions can directly impact the evolution of the fire and its consequences on the environment, neighbouring homes and infrastructures. The capabilities of low latency, computational power, and bandwidth of 5G systems will be used to develop an extensive, very fast solution.
