The Kendall Lab examines how intestinal pathogens exploit host cues to establish infection and cause disease. Ongoing projects in this area focus on protein-RNA and RNA-RNA interactions. We are interested in applicants with expertise in developmental science or educational psychology who are interested in engaging more deeply with research related to the classroom and instructional contexts that support social and emotional development as well as behavioral and academic outcomes. Specifically, we seek applicants whose experiences and/or prior developmental and education research motivates them to engage in research focused on English Learners (EL).
Research associates will have opportunities to broaden their understanding the strengths and challenges faced by ELs, particularly in school-based contexts. They will also engage in experiences that give them hands-on experiences working with partners (districts, departments of education, education innovation organizations) addressing some of our most intractable challenges in supporting the achievement of EL students, their teachers, and schools. Finally, research associates will further their training in rigorous education research methods and statistics.

The Research Associate will participate in planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in Dr. Slingluff’s foundational (basic) biological/health science research laboratory investigating cancer in the Comprehensive Cancer Center; participate in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies; design and execute complex laboratory experiments; perform advanced molecular and cellular techniques; collect, analyze and interpret research data; assist with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; tests experimental designs.
