About PhD Program,

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) at the University of Florida invites applications for multiple full-time, nine-month tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor. The positions have an anticipated start date of August 2025.

We are seeking candidates in all areas related to Electrical & Computer Engineering. However, we have a special interest in candidates with backgrounds in Advanced Packaging, Parallel & Computer Architecture and Parallel & Distributed Computing.

The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Florida (https://ece.ufl.edu/) has over 60 faculty members working in all aspects of electrical & computer engineering and is expected to grow in upcoming years. The total student population is approximately 600 with nearly 260 in the Ph.D. program. The University of Florida is ranked as the #6 Best Public US University according to US News & World Report.

PhD Funding Coverage,

Most students admitted to the graduate program in ECE are awarded some funding for graduate studies. Students who fill out an application to the ECE Department by the application deadline are automatically considered for all available funding – no additional forms are required. Applicants to the MS and PhD programs in ECE are eligible for the following:

Academic Achievement Award Scholarship

International and non-Florida master’s students are eligible. The award provides partial tuition assistance for up to three semesters. The award amount is determined by the College of Engineering and changes from year to year based on available funding.

Graduate Research Assistantship

All graduate students are eligible. Research assistantships provide a full tuition waiver, health insurance, and minimum $28,000 per year stipend. RA assignments typically involve a commitment of 20 hours per week in your research advisor’s lab. RAs are assigned individually by ECE faculty members. Dean’s Research Award

Domestic PhD students are eligible. This award provides a full tuition waiver, health insurance, and minimum $30,000 stipend, renewable for four years. Assignments involve a 20-hour per week research or teaching commitment.

Please note that students in the BS/MS program are not eligible for graduate tuition waivers. Undergraduates interested in joining a research lab are eligible for hourly positions; contact individual faculty members to find out if they have openings.

Application Requirement,  

  • Three letters of recommendation (preferably from individuals that can assess your ability to succeed in a graduate ECE program)
  • Statement of Purpose:
  • All applicants:At the end of your statement of purpose (on a separate page), answer the following two questions.  Note there are strict word count limits.  Responses that exceed the word count will be evaluated negatively. On a separate page at the end of your statement of purpose, copy the questions below and provide your response to each while adhering to the strict word limit
  • Why are you interested in attending the University of Florida? [Response has a 20 word limit]
  • Briefly describe the most challenging or impactful project/problem you have worked on. [Response has a 40 word limit]
  • Resumé or CV
  • For reviewing purposes, unofficial transcripts can be uploaded to the UF graduate application. After admission, official transcripts from all previous college-level study can be sent to the UF Office of Admissions in one of the following ways:
  • By mail, sent directly from your previous institution to the UF Office of Admissions
