About Master’s Program,

The Physics (M.S.) master’s program at UNH allows you to deepen your understanding of core concepts like electromagnetic theory, quantum mechanics, and classical mechanics. Housed in a university recognized with the highest classification for research activity and the Space Science Center, you’ll dive into innovative research and advanced methodologies alongside award-winning faculty with expertise in condensed matter, nuclear and particle physics, high energy theory, space physics, astrophysics and cosmology, and physics education. These experiences, along with a capstone project, are designed to launch successful careers in academia, industry, government research, or further doctoral studies.

The M.S. degree gives you an understanding of physics’ basic theoretical structures as preparation for conducting cutting-edge research. You will learn to apply advanced research methodologies and facilitate deeper student thinking in the areas of electromagnetic theory, quantum mechanics, classical mechanics, and advanced mathematical methods. The graduate program in physics includes a capstone experience, which can be a master’s thesis or project. Graduates of this master’s program are equipped for successful careers in research and development in business, industry, government and education/academia, and are prepared for doctoral programs.

Master’s Funding Coverage,

Each year, the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences awards many scholarships to its students. These awards of several hundred to several thousand dollars honor the recipients and are normally applied to tuition for the following year. Various benefactors of the college, often CEPS alumni, have established endowments that fund these scholarships.

In addition to the CEPS-Industry scholarships, CEPS students are eligible for nearly 100 different scholarships by the generous support of alumni, industry and professional groups. While some are based on financial need, many recognize merit alone. Some target specific areas of study or research at UNH, while others may focus on students from a particular region or high school. Other factors that may be considered include campus involvement, leadership ability, military status and others. Most awardees are continuing full-time students with a GPA of at least 3.0.

To ensure that students are matched appropriately with scholarships, each CEPS department has a scholarship award committee that meets during the spring semester to review criteria and make awards. If your home department requires a scholarship application, you will receive an email with the application details early in the spring semester. Scholarship recipients will be notified in May and the scholarship funds will be applied toward the next academic year.
