About PhD Program,

The Darla Moore School of Business offers two doctoral degree programs: the Ph.D. in Economics and the Ph.D. in Business Administration. Students in the  Ph.D. in Business Administration program can choose from one of seven concentrations. Both programs provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Develop the skills, professional ethics and competence required to design, execute and evaluate creative and meaningful research in your field of specialization
  • Provide a thorough knowledge and deep insight into the main theoretical disciplines underlying your field of specialization, which is built upon a basic understanding of business and its environment
  • Customize your research, teaching interests and expertise to match your interests and career goals to become successful researchers, educators, business professionals and policy makers

PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,

The admissions committee looks at various parts of the application to make a final decision including test scores, letters of recommendation, statement of career objectives and transcripts. For this reason, and giving the holistic approach of the application review, there is no minimum required GPA.

Space availability is competitive and high academic performance is expected, hence committee expectations for GPA tend to be on the high range; typically, in the range of 3.5 to 4.0. Having said that, applicants with under a 3.5 GPA from a U.S. institution are still considered for admissions into the program based on a holistic review of all aspects of the application.

All supporting documents must be received before the admissions committee can start the application review process. This includes all transcripts documenting all academic work, GMAT or GRE scores and the English proficiency test (TOEFL/IELTS/PTEA), if applicable.

Unofficial documents and score reports may be uploaded for application review consideration. Official documents will be required, if admitted to the program, before the end of the first semester of enrollment. Please review the Admissions Criteria section below for more details on required supporting documents

PhD Funding Coverage,

The Ph.D. Scholars Program is intended to provide financial support for Ph.D. students from traditionally underrepresented minority groups, which include those of African American, Hispanic or Latinx, or Native American descent.
