The Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing (DN) degree provides a formal, academic credential and competitive edge for those looking to advance their nursing careers in complex and changing healthcare systems or education settings.
Combining on-campus experiences with online coursework, students learn with a blend of innovative online courses and intensive residencies. This hybrid model is tailored for students who have considerable professional experience and work commitments. A balance of online and in-person learning, both synchronous and asynchronous, allows for mentorship with faculty who are engaged in senior leadership positions and creates a community of learning for students.
PhD Program Degree Eligibility with GPA,
Doctor of Nursing (DN) applicants are admitted under the General Regulations of the School of Graduate Studies. Applicants must also satisfy the Graduate Department of Nursing Science’s additional admission requirements stated below:
- Must be a registered nurse holding current registration in at least one jurisdiction
- Must have a master’s degree in nursing or a closely related field
- Have a minimum B+ standing from a recognized University in their master’s degree in nursing or a related field
- Have a minimum of two years of relevant healthcare leadership experience or advanced nursing education teaching experience
- Have strong letters of support from one academic and two work-related referees
- Consistent with the SGS General Regulation level three English-Language Proficiency, applicants whose primary language is not English and who graduated from a university where the language of instruction and examination was not in English must demonstrate proficiency in English. An interview may be required.
PhD Funding Coverage,
The Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing provides competitive base funding packages for full-time PhD students from years 1-4 of their program of study. All PhD students who are eligible to receive this package will be in the “funded cohort” for 4 years.
In 2023-2024, the annual base funding package is $18,250 plus tuition and fees (varies depending on legal status). Overall, the minimum value of the base funding package, including tuitions and fees is $26,463 for domestic students and $27,219 for international students. While this represents the base support provided, students have opportunities to secure additional funding through scholarships and awards.
