About Postdoctoral Position

We are seeking a quantitative researcher with an interest in family/ criminal law/evaluation to join a trail-blazing project funded by the ESRC investigating the link between family drug and alcohol courts, ordinary care proceedings and crime. The post is available for 18 months (from April 2023 to September 2024). You will be based in the Law School at Lancaster University but work closely with a team comprising a data scientist, quantitative criminal researcher and family and criminal policy experts. The University of Central Lancashire and the Centre for Justice Innovation are partners to the project. You will be employed by Lancaster University Law School. The post-holder can work remotely from home within the UK (appropriate equipment will be provided) but must be willing to travel to Lancaster and research sites as well.

2. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

Applications are invited for a research associate to participate in the development of superconducting RF structures for particle accelerators. The post will be based at Daresbury Laboratory and belonging to the Engineering Department of Lancaster University and the Cockcroft Institute of Accelerator Science and Technology.

The PDRA will join the internationally recognised group of RF engineers working on particle accelerators. The post will involve the experimental testing of thin-film-coated superconducting RF cavities, and simulations/design to support the testing. The Cockcroft Institute currently has systems for measuring DC magnetic field penetration, planar surface resistance, and coated cavities to measure superconducting samples provided by collaborators at Daresbury Laboratory and Liverpool University. This post would include development and commissioning of upgrades to these test stands or new test stands, operation of the existing test stands to measure SRF films, analysis of results, and testing of SRF cavities for other projects as required.

4. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

The Experimental Particle Physics group at Lancaster University is seeking to appoint a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to join the Tokai to Kamioka (T2K) experiment. The preferred candidate will be appointed to the appropriate position (Senior Research Associate or Research Associate) based on their skills and experience.

T2K is a long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiment situated in Japan, that uses an intense beam of muon (anti)neutrinos to make precision measurements of neutrino oscillation parameters and interaction cross sections. Within the T2K collaboration, the Lancaster group specialises in developing samples for inclusion in the near-detector fitting framework for the oscillation analysis. The successful applicant will make significant contributions to the development of new near detector selections and sample categories for use in the T2K oscillation analysis and will contribute to on-site activities in Japan related to the near detector.

5. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

We are seeking one or more researchers to develop a condensed-matter atomic clock. They will join a new and ambitious effort, in collaboration between Lancaster University and LocatorX, Inc., to apply new developments in electron spin resonance to clock technology. The project exploits spin resonance in nitrogen endofullerene molecules, whose spin states possess long quantum coherence times and therefore a well-defined transition frequency even at room temperature.

We have discovered a clock transition in this material, meaning that the frequency (unlike that of most spin resonance transitions) is insensitive to magnetic-field fluctuations. This is the key discovery that underpins this technology. The aim of this project is to advance the technology readiness of the device from TRL3 to TRL5.

To do this, we will construct and characterise a table-top prototype clock, then incorporate new techniques to stabilise and track the transition frequency even under environmental perturbations such as fluctuations of magnetic field and temperature. We seek experimental physicists with knowledge of spin resonance and electronic measurements who are motivated to use fundamental physical principles to create a new technology.
