1. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

The concept of ecosystem services has gained attention since the publications of Costanza et al. (1997) in Nature and the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment in 2005. The concept received increasing attention ever since, both from science and policy. The strong integrative and multidisciplinary character allows to make the link between ecology, economy and society, creating opportunities for better underpinned nature and environmental policy. Major advances have been made for the quantification and modelling of terrestrial ecosystem services but for the marine and coastal environment research is still in its infancy. At the same time, the intensity of use of our marine space is accelerating (e.g. offshore wind parks, sand extraction, …). Innovative nature-based solutions to protect against climate change effects are increasingly gaining attention.

About Postdoctoral Position

The project will be executed at the Toxicological Centre (TC) of the University of Antwerp, which has extensive analytical expertise and instrumental capabilities related to human exposure assessment and environmental and analytical toxicology. The TC has also developed in-house untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics analytical platforms based on liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS) for the analysis of different biological matrices, such as cell extracts and animal tissues.

About Postdoctoral Position

We are seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to join the lab on an exciting project funded by a FWO Project Grant. The overarching goals of the project are to elucidate how neuronal embryonic progenitor origin shapes the integration of neurons within the adult basal ganglia and associated structures and how perturbations at the level of embryonic progenitors can impact the development and function of these neuronal circuits (see e.g. 1,2). To investigate this, we will use a combination of techniques including in utero electroporation, electrophysiology, RNAseq and proteomic approaches and well as behavioural analysis.
