About PhD Position

The Department of Pedagogical, Curricular and Professional Studies constitutes one of the strongest didactic environments in the Nordic countries. We work with research and education related to teaching and learning. A shared interest at the department is to develop knowledge that contributes to a more equal and sustainable society, through education and research on higher education, schools and classrooms. Work at the department includes teacher education, research and developmental work that is relevant to school practices. The practice-based element of this work is often conducted in collaboration with individual schools, municipalities and the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket). In addition to being responsible for the primary school teacher education programme, the department is responsible for supplementary teacher education (KPU).

3. Fully Funded PhD Program

About PhD Position

The candidate will design, construct, and validate microfluidic models intended to host various liver-specific cells in both 2D and 3D compatible with different microscopy modalities. The project includes a significant portion of experimental work involving continuous cell culture optimization and evaluation using classical fluorescent staining, functional analyses, and microscopy imaging. Furthermore, the subsequent analysis necessitates quantitative data management and image processing with software relying on AI and deep learning. The project’s title in the MSCA program is “Endothelial interventions to reverse the effects of ageing and disease on endothelial cells, and how to monitor this reversal”.

About PhD Position

The aim of the PhD project is to investigate chrial-specific interactions in oligomers of biologically relevant molecules such as amino acids and peptides. The project will make use of both experimental and theoretical methods. The experimental part of the project includes high-resolution UV and IR spectroscopy of gas-phase molecules with table-top and free electron lasers. The data obtained experimentally will be analyzed with quantum chemistry methods in order to derive molecular structures and get insight into underlying inter-molecular interactions.

About PhD Position

The project aims to employ bio-composites as coatings in Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), addressing their moisture sensitivity. Our goals: (I) Develop accurate models for simulating moisture diffusion in bio-composites used as coatings for WAAM-produced metallic components, accounting for complex microstructures; (II) Improve computational efficiency with Machine Learning, particularly Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), in multiscale modeling; and (III) Utilize ANN-enhanced models to design bio-composites with desired moisture properties, reducing reliance on extensive experiments. By achieving these objectives, we aim to advance the use of bio-composites as effective coatings for WAAM-produced metallic components, optimizing their moisture-related properties, and reducing the reliance on extensive experimental testing Being a PhD is a 4 year full-time studies and leads to a Doctoral Degree. Those who are employed as doctoral students must primarily devote themselves to their doctoral education. However, a doctoral student may to a limited extent work with education, research and administration max 20 % of full-time work.

About PhD Position

Third-cycle studies comprises four years of full-time studies and leads after a successful completion to a Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science and Engineering. Those who are employed as doctoral students must primarily devote themselves to their doctoral education. However, a doctoral student may to a limited extent work with education, research and administration, so-called departmental service in a teaching or supporting role, which can be concentrated on certain parts of the year depending on the needs of the business in consultation with the student. Such work may, before the doctoral degree is completed, not cover more than 20 percent of full-time work over the study period. If departmental service is performed corresponding to 20 percent of full-time study time, the employment contract is extended by the corresponding period, which gives a total employment of five years.

About PhD Position

The seagrass Zostera marina (eelgrass) is one of the most important habitat-forming species along northern temperate coasts world-wide, as well as around the Swedish coast. Eelgrass meadows have declined considerably. In the Baltic Sea, large losses of eelgrass are predicted due to decreasing salinity and increasing temperature. In the project in which the PhD student will be hired, we will address these challenges by developing and implementing new management tools for scaling up restoration and protection of eelgrass habitats in Sweden.
