1. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

The Mu3e experiment, under preparation at PSI, will look for beyond-the-standard model physics in lepton flavour-violating decays of the muon. The University of Bristol, along with Liverpool and Oxford, are building the outer pixel layers, which consist of monolithic HV-CMOS detectors on a novel low-mass structure. The experiment should be installed and ready for first data in 2024, and has the potential to improve current limits on the process by four orders of magnitude. The Bristol particle physics group have a vacancy for a postdoctoral researcher to play a leading role in all of our Mu3e activities.

2. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate or Senior Research Associate in molecular epidemiology/bioinformatics to analyse molecular data generated by Biomarkers in Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis (BIOMAP, https://www.biomap-imi.eu/). BIOMAP is a large European consortium aiming to identify biomarkers that predict therapeutic response and disease progression for atopic dermatitis and psoriasis. BIOMAP brings together clinicians, researchers, patient organizations and pharmaceutical industry partners.

You will be a key member of the BIOMAP data analysis team that determines causal relationships between intermediate omics traits and Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis subtypes to identify potential target mechanisms. You will join the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit (IEU) team and will be aligned with multiple programmes (Mendelian Randomization and Epigenetic Epidemiology) within the unit at the University of Bristol located within the Bristol Medical School. You will have talent, expertise and ambition to conduct epigenetic epidemiology research on atopic dermatitis and psoriasis in population-based cohorts and patient registries.

3. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

An experienced and creative Postdoctoral Research Associate / Senior Research Associate is required to add their expertise to a multidisciplinary team investigating the use of nanoparticle biological conjugates in bacterial diagnostics. The work aims to elucidate the potential of novel rapid diagnostics tests to be used with clinical samples whilst retaining their specificity and sensitivity identified with laboratory samples. The Postdoctoral Research Associate / Senior Research Associate is also expected to help in parallel work focused on the development of different bioconjugates and testing these against a range of bacterial pathogens.

4. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

The University of Bristol seeks to employ a 3 year postdoctoral researcher in large scale compound flood hazard modelling. This work is funded by the CLARE programme. CLARE is a partnership between the FCDO and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The project is ‘REsilience and PReparedness to tropical cyclones across Southern Africa’ (REPRESA) led by the Global Change Institute, University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Bristol, and Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique.

The postdoctoral researcher will work with the project team and partners, feeding into the larger REPRESA goals. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in a physical science discipline, with a track record in hydrodynamic modelling or closely related field. An understanding of hydrological extremes is also essential. The candidate will need to be able to build and execute hydrodynamic models and develop basic scripting codes. Other desired, but not essential qualities, include knowledge relevant to disaster risk reduction, hazard mapping, risk assessment, tropical cyclone hazards and climate change projections for Africa.

5. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

You will be required to work on multiple projects simultaneously, but your primary responsibility will be on the design and synthesis of complex molecules, and the development of new synthetic methodology using the tools of organic electrochemistry and hypervalent iodine. In addition, density functional theory (DFT) will be used to assess the mechanisms of reactions that are developed. This exciting multidisciplinary project will involve a combination of techniques associated with inorganic and organic synthesis, computational calculations and electrochemistry.

6. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

We are seeking a postdoctoral Research Associate with experience in cancer epidemiology and Mendelian randomization analysis, to join our collaborative multi-disciplinary team of cancer research scientists based in Bristol, but collaborating with the project lead at Imperial College London. You will be funded by a project grant from the World Cancer to investigate the mechanisms between dietary factors and colorectal cancer risk using Mendelian randomization analyses. Once appointed you will be affiliated with the world-leading Cancer Research UK-funded Integrative Cancer Epidemiology Programme and will join a team of researchers who are applying cutting-edge statistical methods to molecular and genetic data to investigate the causes of cancers, factors influencing cancer progression, new ways to predict who will develop or die from cancers and new therapeutic intervention targets.

7. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

You will be responsible for overseeing the installation and upkeep of a new continental-scale network of wireless tree sensors covering Europe’s major forest types and tree species. By accurately measuring the stem growth and water use of thousands of trees in real time, you will build the first complete picture of how climate contains tree-level carbon and water dynamics at hourly, daily, seasonal and annual time scales. You will identify the precise climatic windows within which different tree species are able to grow and transpire, and quantify how the relationship between tree growth, water use and climate is modulated by a tree’s competitive neighbourhood.

You will also assist with collaborative efforts to integrate and upscale measurements from the tree sensor network with other data sources, including tree rings, eddy covariance and remote sensing. You will be embedded within a larger team of forest ecologists, plant ecophysiologists and remote sensing scientists funded through a UKRI Frontier Research Guarantee grant awarded to Dr Jucker.
