About Postdoctoral Position

The Postdoctoral Fellow (PF) will be a central contributor to the new project Measuring Racial Inequality in Tax Data, whose Principal Investigator (PI) is Dr. Pablo Mitnik. The PF will mostly contribute to two components of this project. The first component involves using restricted population-level data available at the Census Bureau to thoroughly test the performance, along several dimensions and at various geographic scales, of an increasingly popular methodology for estimating racial and ethnic economic disparities with data lacking self-reported information on race and ethnicity.

The second component aims at improving the empirical implementation of the methodology, theoretically developing it in a number of directions, and testing these developments with the same restricted population-level data. Additional work by the PF will be directed at specifying the structure and capabilities of a general-use software package implementing the methodology and overseeing the development of this package by an external contractor.

About Postdoctoral Position

Our lab is interested in understanding the mechanisms by which the lung epithelium responds to injury. We study mechanisms of regeneration after injury. Failure of epithelial regeneration is thought to drive the development of lung diseases such as fibrosis and emphysema. Specifically, we are exploring the mechanisms underlying proliferation and differentiation of alveolar epithelial progenitor or stem cells. We have identified ?-catenin, HIF, and TGF? signaling as important drivers.

We also study the epithelial inflammatory and host defense responses to bacterial and viral infection, specifically epithelial-immune cell crosstalk. We use mouse and cell culture models to study mechanisms. The mouse work involves lineage tracing and inducible cell-specific gene deficient mice, and primary epithelial cell culture/organoid work allows us to further dissect mechanism.

We use confocal imaging, immunostaining, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), single cell RNA sequencing, proteomics, and flow assisted cytometry sorting (FACS). We hope that our work will identify novel pathways for the development of therapies for infectious, inflammatory, and fibrotic lung diseases.

About Postdoctoral Position

We are conducting gene discovery studies using genome sequencing, GWAS and transcript expression profiling methods to understand both common and rare vascular diseases. We are generating epigenetic data sets for integrative genomic studies. In the wet lab side of the laboratory, we use in vitro cellular and in vivo models to assess the functional significance of our genomic discoveries. This will provide an opportunity for collaboration with functionally oriented lab personnel and trainees.

Our studies are closely tied to the clinic, with human tissue and blood samples from meticulously phenotyped patients and thus candidates can expect to gain exposure to translational aspects of their research projects as well. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic laboratory that is using genetic and genomic discovery approaches to study novel influences on disease, using both dry-lab and wet-lab approaches.
