3. PhD Program in Software Engineering for AI Applications
About PhD Position
Machine Learning (ML) uses big data to enable software algorithms to “learn” complex patterns in data, solving difficult problems such as recognizing images and diagnosing cancer. Despite the immense business gains provided by machine learning, there are challenges in its use as part of large, complex software systems: models are opaque and volatile, thus the capabilities of models and training data are difficult to determine upfront, and it is challenging to trace desired behaviours to models and data.
Machine learning development must fit into current large-scale agile development practices, including continuous integration and development. These challenges can prevent systems using machine learning from being released or cause critical trust and reliability issues in released systems.
Application Deadline: 2023-04-24
4. 02 PhD Program in Environmental Social Science

5. PhD Program in C. elegans Membrane Homeostasis
About PhD Position
The recruited PhD student will be expected to carry out semi-independent research concerning the molecular mechanisms contributing to membrane homeostasis and/or fat management mostly using primarily C. elegans models. The student will also be expected to participate in group meetings, present research in departmental seminars and conferences, and to publish articles based on own research. Additionally, the student is expected to acquire 60 hp through PhD level courses, some of which are mandatory, and to help with the teaching of laboratory exercises that are part of undergraduate courses. Most work-related activities will be carried out in English.

7. PhD Program in Medical Science
About PhD Position
Development of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, overweight and obesity is complex and many factors influence the risk of becoming ill. Unique to women is the impact on disease risk that childbearing can bring. Several studies have shown that number of children born is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and higher body weight in women, which is supported by changes in metabolic markers during pregnancy and after delivery.
Instead, breastfeeding seems to reduce the risk of developing, for example, cardiovascular disease and diabetes in women who have given birth, but previous studies have been inconclusive, and more studies with better exposure data are needed to investigate the effects of breastfeeding on women’s cardiometabolic health after childbirth.
Application Deadline: 2023-04-20
8. PhD Program in Medical Science
About PhD Position
Low-grade inflammation ie. small increases in inflammatory markers in the circulation, is involved in the development of many diseases. There are many hypotheses about how dietary composition affects inflammatory processes, but these are not well studied in practice. In this doctoral project, associations and effects between dietary fat quality, blood lipids and inflammation markers will be investigated. The doctoral project includes both an observational study and two double-blind dietary intervention studies. In a cross-sectional study, dietary data on fat intake will be associated with inflammation markers in the blood.
The effects of fat quality on blood lipids and inflammatory markers will also be investigated in a postprandial study and in a long-term intervention. In both intervention studies, different dietary sources of fat will be studied with focus on effects on blood lipids and inflammatory markers, immediately after a meal and after several weeks of intake.
Application Deadline: 2023-04-20
9. PhD Program in Musicology
About PhD Position
Music and sound play an important yet often unacknowledged role in contemporary illiberal media and discourse. One example of this is the audiovisual embeddedness of such discourse as disseminated by fictional, documentary and news related outlets on social media and on the internet more generally. But illiberal worldviews and values are also articulated in and through different musical practices, traditions, and genres as well as the discourses surrounding them.
Research on how music and/or sound is implicated in the rhetoric and spread of illiberal discourse promises to provide a deeper understanding of contemporary illiberal populism and the aesthetic, cultural and audiovisual resources it draws on.
Application Deadline: April 27, 2023
10. PhD Program in Artistic Practice

12. PhD Program in Physical Chemistry
About PhD Position
You will systematically explore the interaction between delocalized hybrid states and localized charge transfer states, allowing design criteria to be formulated. The outcome of your work is the description and mechanistic revelation of a novel quantum physical phenomenon that can enable production of organic solar cells from simple layered structures with unprecedented efficiencies.
You will become an expert within steady state and time resolved spectroscopy. Specifically, you will work at the UV/Vis regime of the electromagnetic spectrum, and probe both absorption and emission events at timescales from femtoseconds to microseconds. You will learn how to model the photophysics that is occurring using rate equations and to link your experimental data to your model. Furthermore, you will learn how to simulate your studied systems from a classical electromagnetism point of view using the transfer matrix model. You will work independently within a research group consisting of about 8 researchers.
