A full-time Post-Doctoral Research position is available in the Department of Neurological Surgery. The candidate will assist the principal investigator in conducting research on stem cells and pediatric brain tumors, primarily medulloblastoma and ependymomas. Our research is focused on examining the early steps of tumorigenesis from normal neural stem cells to full blown cancer. We will model brain cancer predisposition syndromes such as Gorlin syndrome, neurofibromatosis, MMRD with iPS and neural stem cells. The IU experimental nuclear physics group has an active and diverse program addressing fundamental questions in nuclear physics, particle physics, and astrophysics/cosmology. The Goicoechea Lab in the Department of Chemistry at Indiana University is accepting applications for a postdoctoral research position. The position offers the opportunity to explore the chemistry of metal complexes of the cyaphide ligand, with a particular focus on using such complexes in cross-coupling reactions (for previous work see: J. The Aronoff Lab at Indiana University of Medicine has a one-to-two-year postdoctoral research fellow position available for a project related to characterizing host-microbial interactions and innate immunity at the fetal-maternal interface, involved in the pathogenesis of Group B Streptococcus (GBS). We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join a multidisciplinary research team studying the terrestrial-atmospheric exchange of reactive nitrogen oxides in forested environments. This successful applicant will work collaboratively with three research groups – Jonathan Raff’s atmospheric chemistry lab (IU O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs), Richard Phillips’ soil biogeochemistry lab (IU Biology) and Jeff Geddes’ remote sensing and atmospheric modeling lab at Boston University – as part of an NSF-funded project aimed at measuring soil fluxes of reactive N from forest soils.

The overarching goals of the project are to develop parameterizations for soil microbial emissions from soil and study their impact on the oxidative capacity of the atmosphere. Recent work has demonstrated that soil emissions and deposition of nitrogen oxides such as NOx and HONO can have important influences on atmospheric composition in forested regions; however, these processes are inaccurately represented in atmospheric chemistry models.

The project is entitled “Attributions of Mathematical Excellence in Teaching and Learning” (AMETL). The central hypothesis is that teachers’ beliefs attributing mathematical excellence to innate ability, cultural and social background, or personal characteristics widen the opportunity gap by resonating implicit bias and stereotype threat, and moreover, that beliefs attributing mathematical excellence to instructional opportunities narrow the gap because these beliefs amplify teacher expectations. The project comprises three studies focused on (1) item development to construct the AMETL scale; (2) validating the internal structure of the scale and determining relations with other variables; and (3) understanding relations between teachers’ scores on the AMETL scale with their classroom instruction. The post-doctoral appointee will work on the use of superconducting neutron Wollaston prisms, polarized 3He neutron spin filters, and other devices to generate and analyze mode-entangled neutron beams and neutron beams with OAM; the interaction of neutron OAM beams on p-wave neutron-nucleus resonances, and the development of novel RF neutron-spin-flippers using high temperature superconducting materials. Development of new instrumentation will require computer simulation using commercially available software such as MagNet© and COMSOL© as well as mechanical design, testing and neutron beam experiments at national neutron facilities.
