About Postdoctoral Position

We are looking for a highly motivated person to take on an exciting project opportunity and be the driver for an Innovate UK funded Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Edinburgh and Optos. The project aims to revolutionise the way in which damage to the retina, causing vision loss, is detected and managed by clinical eye-care specialists at a time when new treatments are being licenced for use, bringing hope of saving sight amongst sufferers. Optos’ imaging devices provide a comprehensive scan of the retina, providing clinicians with high-quality images with which to detect damage in the retina. The key objective of this partnership is to take leading edge knowledge of retinal image processing and analysis, and prototype Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence methods to automatically detect and quantify damage in the retina and translate that into software for devices that will be usable in the clinical environment.

7. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

The dynamical systems view of turbulence, in which the flow “pinballs” between exact coherent states (ECS), is a promising way to unify our statistical understanding of turbulence with a mechanistic understanding of the complex self-sustaining processes that underpin it. Historically, this approach has been restricted to weakly turbulent flows due to the difficulty of identifying and converging ECS, and this project will seek to use advances in machine learning and automatic differentiation to overcome these barriers.

About Postdoctoral Position

The main theme of research is to examine galaxy evolution in the radio. The primary focus is to use the Simba simulation suite, as well as its successor and/or spin-off simulations, to examine the constraints on galaxy formation physics enabled by the ongoing generation of radio surveys using the MeerKAT radio array in South Africa. The applicant would be liaising closely with observers on the LADUMA and MIGHTEE Large Projects on MeerKAT, on which Prof. Davé is a Co-I, as well as the MALS Large Project, ideally assuming the position of the point person to coordinate data/simulation comparisons for within teams. Additionally, the applicant would be leading a robust science program of their own, taking advantage of close comparisons to radio survey and ancillary observations in order to better understand the physics of galaxy evolution across cosmic time.
