1. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

The positions are part of the project “YOUTHPOL”. In the 4-year ‘Sapere Aude’ project funded by the Danish Research Council (6.2 million DKR), we aim to understand how youth wings across Europe influence their mother parties’ policy positions and priorities and bring issues into parliament to push for policy change on behalf of young people. Youth wings appear to be involved as drivers of various policy changes including cannabis legislation in Germany, gender-equal military service in Denmark and dyslexia screening in Denmark – but at the same time youth wings are seen by many as amateurs and peripheral to policy-making.

4. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

In this project, the successful candidate will contribute to the development and application of machine learning (ML) methods for accelerating the computational screening of catalytic materials. We will specifically target metal oxides, which are a challenging class of materials due to the many possible metal oxides that could, in principle, be formed from the elements of the periodic table as well as their complex electronic structure and possible surface geometry. Metal oxides show good catalytic performances for a wide range of reactions but remain largely unexplored with current ML approaches. We will focus our investigations on CO2 reduction to valuable chemicals and fuels (CO and methanol), which can help our society in the mitigation of global warming and diversification of energy sources.

About Postdoctoral Position

Transporters are membrane proteins that transfer substrates from one side of the membrane to the other. The mechanism of transport is stringent and dependent on molecular-level interactions that are dynamically formed or dissolved, depending on the conformational state of the transporter. Our focus is on transport that is driven by protonation events that change the electrostatic landscape of the protein and consequently facilitate functional conformational change. Understanding the base mechanism of transport is of great interest as it underlies the understanding of potential routes of inhibition, modulation, or novel utilisation of transporters via specific ligands.

About Postdoctoral Position

This project aims to explore the biomimicry of the myofibrillar hierarchy of meat by merging top-down and bottom-up approaches and consequently improve the texture of whole muscle cut analogues. The outcomes could help rationalize the production of plant-protein foods and accelerate innovation to orientate earth and consumer needs to a more sustainable plant-based diet. Therefore, we seek a candidate with knowledge on protein and polysaccharide physical chemistry, chemistry and/or chemical engineering.

About Postdoctoral Position

Gene editing using CRISPR/Cas has the potential to cure severe genetic diseases caused by inherited gene variants. ‘Prime editing’ is a novel gene editing modality based on copying of small pieces of DNA from the prime editing guide RNA (pegRNA) molecule, the short RNA molecule used to guide the CRISPR/Cas9 protein to predetermined loci in the human genome. With prime editing, disease-causing genes can be corrected independent of low-efficient DNA repair pathways and without breaking the DNA. This project focuses on one of the key challenges on the path toward clinical translation of prime editing: delivery of the prime editor protein/RNA complex.

About Postdoctoral Position

Milk proteins are main food proteins, but there is still a lack of understanding of what drives variation in milk composition, casein micelles and coagulation properties between different genetic variants. To address this the aim is to perform model studies isolating the effect of different milk components and their effect on milk coagulation properties. By reconstitution and mixing different fractions, these experiments should be able to provide insight into what drives differences in milk coagulation properties especially between cows with different β- and κ-casein genotypes.

17. 05 Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

The project will focus on a biotechnological approach to radically change how our society produces food and chemicals, in particular protein. Current agricultural production is inefficient, high CO2 emitting, and relies heavily on fossil carbon resources. We are pursuing a radically different approach to produce protein from CO2 and electricity by using a microbial, and not plant-based, platform in a two-stage microbial fermentation. Renewable power is utilized to split water into H2. H2 plus CO2 is fermented by acetogenic bacteria to produce acetate, which is fed into a second fermentation to produce many different protein products in aerobic fungi. Shifting from animal-based protein production to efficient and versatile biotechnology-based protein production is required to considerably reduce CO2 emissions while feeding in the future 11 billion people on our planet.

18. Postdoctoral Fellowship

About Postdoctoral Position

Research reveals that the transformation towards a sustainable DK/EU agricultural production system could be driven by adoption of new digital technologies. The agro-food sector can improve the sustainability profile of farms while keeping productivity intact by adopting and appropriating digital technologies (e.g., precision and smart farming). What several reports uniformly highlight is that the challenges are less technical in character but rather are concerned with competences, culture, managerial approaches, and organizational structures and strategies traditionally in place in the farming sector. Hence, adoption and use of digital technologies connects more to the mindsets of people, their behaviors, and perceptions, than to the technologies per se. This project SmartER-FarmER aims to tackle these issues with a new interdisciplinary partnership between the research fields of agroecology, engineering, and management of technology.

About Postdoctoral Position

Aromatic Lamiaceae dominate the Mediterranean vegetation and are polymorphic for the monoterpene composition of their volatile oil. These plants show a natural geographic distribution in monoterpenes that associate with different climatic environments. The monoterpenes protect them against climate stress such as temperature and drought. Wild thyme has two ecotypes adapted to different types of climate stress. We have identified candidate genes responsible for this chemical phenotype/ecotype variation. This project will expand on these findings to bring new insights into how variation in ecologically important trait allow plants to cope with current and future climate conditions.
