About Fully Funded PhD in Social Work

The University of Texas at Arlington provides a PhD in Social Work that is completely supported. The Ph.D. program equips graduates to improve their knowledge base in social work by doing significant and innovative research to address social problems.

Full-time PhD students are supported for three years by a combination of tuition, fellowship awards, and stipends for graduate assistants and graduate teaching assistants.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • MSW Preferred
  • MSSW or MA in related field
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 minimum in the last approximately 60 hours of university level credits as calculated by the UTA Office of Admissions, Records and Registration
  • Masters GPA of 3.4 minimum as calculated by the Office of Admissions, Records and Registration

PhD Funding Coverage

Full-time PhD students are supported for three years by a combination of tuition, fellowship awards, and stipends for graduate assistants and graduate teaching assistants.

  • Official transcripts from previously attended college/ university.
  • English language proficiency test scores such as TOEFL, IELTS, etc. (for non-native English speakers only)
  • Entrance test scores, GRE*, GMAT* or other accepted scores*
  • Research proposal
  • Statement of purpose
  • Writing samples
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Up-to-date resume
  • Copy of passport
  • Financial documents including bank statements
